Hymn for the Week

Come, listen to a prophet's voice, And hear the word of God,
And in the way of truth rejoice, And sing for joy aloud.
We've found the way the prophets went Who lived in days of yore.
Another prophet now is sent This knowledge to restore.

The gloom of sullen darkness spread Thru earth's extended space
Is banished by our living Head, And God has shown his face.
Thru erring schemes in days now past The world has gone astray;
Yet Saints of God have found at last The straight and narrow way.

'Tis not in man they put their trust, Nor on his arm rely,
Full well assured, all are accursed Who Jesus Christ deny.
The Savior to his people saith, "Let all my words obey,
And signs shall follow living faith, Down to the latest day."

Then heed the words of truth and light That flow from fountains pure.
Yea, keep His law with all thy might Till thine election's sure,
Till thou shalt hear the holy voice Assure eternal reign,
While joy and cheer attend thy choice, As one who shall obtain.

Quote for the Week

"By the universal power of the Holy Ghost, I felt in my heart and in my mind that Joseph Smith saw God and Jesus Christ and heard Their voices. I believed Joseph Smith's testimony of that experience in the Sacred Grove then, and I know it now." ---President Dieter F. Uchtdorf

The Whale

In my entry last week, I posted the phrase:
In San Francisco Town there lived a whale,
I can't believe you can't remember the old 78 Burl Ives records we used to have. The Whale song goes as follows:
In San Francisco Town there lived a whale,
She ate pork chops by the pail,
By the pillbox, by the suitcase,
By the bathtub, by the schooner.

Her name is Sarah and she's a peach,
But you can't leave food within her reach,
Nor nursemaids, nor Airedales,
Nor chocolate ice cream sodas.

She eats a lot but when she smiles,
You can see her teeth for miles and miles,
And her herbadores, and her spareribs,
and things too fierce to mention.

So what can you do in a case like that,
What can you do but sit on your hat,
Or your toothbrush, or your grandmother,
Or anything else that's helpless.

Other songs on those records were "Buckeye Jim", "The Goat", "The Grey Goose", "Mr. Rabbit", "The Sow Took The Measles", and "The Tailor and the Mouse". I was looking up some things online, and ran across a Burl Ives Children's album that has all of those songs on it. It was good to hear those old songs again.

Hymn for the Week

As I have loved you, love one another.
This new commandment, love one another.
By this shall men know, ye are my disciples,
If ye have love one to another.

Quote for the Week

"Every sacrament meeting ought to be a spiritual feast. It ought to be a time for meditation and introspection, a time for singing songs of praise to the Lord, a time for renewing one's covenant with Him and our Eternal Father, and a time for hearing the word of the Lord with reverence and appreciation." ---President Gordon B. Hinckley

Hymn for the Week

We thank thee, O God, for a prophet To guide us in these latter days.
We thank thee for sending the gospel To lighten our minds with its rays.
We thank thee for every blessing Bestowed by thy bounteous hand.
We feel it a pleasure to serve thee, And love to obey thy command.

When dark clouds of trouble hang o'er us And threaten our peace to destroy,
There is hope smiling brightly before us, And we know that deliverance is nigh.
We doubt not the Lord nor his goodness. We've proved him in days that are past.
The wicked who fight against Zion Will surely be smitten at last.

We'll sing of his goodness and mercy. We'll prove him by and and by night,
Rejoice in his glorious gospel, And bask in its life-giving light.
Thus onto eternal perfection The honest and faithful will go,
While they who reject this glad message Shall never such happiness know.

Hymn for the Week

Now let us rejoice in the day of salvation. No longer as strangers on earth need we roam.
Good tidings are sounding to us and each nation, And shortly the hour of redemption will come.
When all that was promised the Saints will be given, And none will molest them from morn until ev'n.
And earth will appear as the Garden of Eden, And Jesus will say to all Israel, "Come home."

We'll love one another and never disemble, But cease to do evil and ever be one.
And when the ungodly are fearing and tremble, We'll watch for the day when the Savior will come.
When all that was promised the Saints will be given, And none will molest them from morn until ev'n.
And earth will appear as the Garden of Eden, And Jesus will say to all Israel, "Come home."

In faith we'll rely on the arm of Jehovah To guide thru these last days of trouble and gloom,
And after the scourges and harvest are over, We'll rise with the just when the Savior doth come.
Then all that was promised the Saints will be given, And they will be crown'd with the angels of heav'n,
And earth will appear as the Garden of Eden, And Christ and his people will ever be one.
