Quote for the Week

"The object of Christ's mission to the earth was to offer himself as a sacrifice to redeem mankind from eternal death . . . . He acted strictly in obedience to his Father's will in all things from the beginning, and drank of the bitter cup given him. Herein is brought to light, glory, honour, immortality, and eternal life, with that charity which is greater than faith or hope, for the Lamb of God has hereby performed that for man which [man] could not accomplish himself. . . . There is no being that has power to save the souls of men and give them eternal life, except the Lord Jesus Christ, under the command of His Father." -----President Wilford Woodruff

Ribbons

Who used to sell ribbons?

The "Pitchfork"....

In answer to Brenda's question..... Here is how I remember the story.

Once upon a time,there was a little 5 year old boy, that had a fiery redheaded temper. also there was an older, teenage sister, that was given the job of baby sitting 3 younger brothers, under the age of 8, while the parents where away for the day. (Most likely at the "oldest" sisters wedding.)
 The fiery tempered 5 year old must not have liked something that he was asked to do , because it turned into a match of wills between the teenage sister, (the one in charge) and the fiery tempered 5 year old. (the one not in charge). The fiery tempered 5 year old decided in a fit of anger to stack the odds in his favor, and picked up a near-by pitchfork, and proceeded to chase the teenage sister, with intent of doing bodily harm. As the teenage sister was running away, (it must be noted hear that the 5 year old was a fairly fast runner), the thought occurred to her that "this is silly, I am bigger than him. " so she turned around and took the pitchfork away from him .

Scripture for the Week

Mosiah 28:3. The sons of Mosiah sure had the true missionary spirit. What marvels me the most about them is that they were so wicked. They did go about willfully rebelling against God and the Church. Then, after they repented, they were some of the best missionaries the Church has ever known.

Quote for the Week

"That Being who dwelt in Heaven, who reigned there before the world was, who created the earth, and who, in the meridian of time, came down to perfect and save that which He had created, has appeared to men in this age. . . . We testify to the whole world that we know, by divine revelation, even through the manifestations of the Holy Ghost, that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God, and that he revealed himself to Joseph Smith as personally as he did to his apostles anciently, after he arose from the tomb, and that he made known unto him [the] heavenly truths by which alone mankind can be saved." ---President Lorenzo Snow

Hymn for the Week

COME, COME YE SAINTS

Come, come ye Saints, no toil nor labor fear; But with joy wend your way.
Though hard to you this journey may appear, Grace shall be as your day.
'Tis better far for us to strive Our useless cares from us to drive;
Do this and joy your hearts will swell -- All is well! All is well!

Why should we mourn or think our lot is hard? 'Tis not so; all is right.
Why should we think to earn a great reward If we now shun the fight?
Gird up your loins; fresh courage take. Our God will never us forsake;
And soon we'll have this tale to tell -- All is well! All is well!

We'll find the place which God for us prepared, Far away in the West,
Where none shall come to hurt or make afraid; There the Saints will be blessed.
We'll make the air with music ring, Shout praises to our God and King;
Above the rest these words we'll tell -- All is well! All is well!

And should we die before our journey's through, Happy day! All is well!
We then are free from toil and sorrow too; With the just we shall dwell!
But if our lives are spared again To see the Saints their rest obtain,
Oh, how we'll make this chorus swell -- All is well! All is well!

Hymn for the Week

THE LORD IS MY LIGHT

The Lord is my light; then why should I fear?
By day and by night his presence is near.
He is my salvation from sorrow and sin;
This blessed assurance the Spirit doth bring.

CHORUS:
The Lord is my light; He is my joy and my song.
By day and by night he leads, he leads me along.

The Lord is my light; tho clouds may arise,
Faith stronger than sight, looks up thru the skies
Where Jesus forever in glory doth reign.
Then how can I ever in darkness remain?

REPEAT CHORUS

The Lord is my light; the Lord is my strength.
I know in his might I'll conquer at length.
My weakness in mercy he covers with pow'r,
And walking by faith, I am blest ev'ry hour.

REPEAT CHORUS

The Lord is my light; my all and in all.
There is in his sight no darkness at all.
He is my Redeemer, my Savior, and King.
With Saints and with angels his praises I'll sing.

REPEAT CHORUS

Quote for the Week

"To members of the Church throughout the world, and to peace-lovers everywhere, we say, behold in this Man of Galilee not merely a great Teacher, not merely a peerless Leader, but the Prince of Peace, the Author of Salvation, here and now, literally and truly the Savior of the World! Jesus is the Redeemer of the world, the Savior of mankind, who came to the earth with a divinely appointed mission to die for the redemption of mankind. Jesus Christ is literally the Son of God, the Only Begotten in the flesh. He is our Redeemer, and we worship him." ---President Heber J. Grant

Hymn for the Week

BE STILL, MY SOUL

Be still, my soul: The Lord is on thy side;
With patience bear thy cross of grief or pain.
Leave to thy God to order and provide;
In every change he faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul: Thy best, thy heav'nly Friend
Thru thorny ways leads to a joyful end.

Be still, my soul: Thy God doth undertake
To guide the future as he has the past.
Thy hope, thy confidence let nothing shake;
All now mysterious shall be bright at last.
Be still, my soul: The waves and winds still know
His voice who ruled them while he dwelt below.

Be still, my soul: The hour is hast'ning on
When we shall be forever with the Lord,
When disappointment, grief, and fear are gone,
Sorrow forgot, love's purest joys restored.
Be still, my soul: When change and tears are past,
All safe and blessed we shall meet at last.

Quote for the Week

"The Savior died that we might live. He overcame death and the grave and holds out to all who obey His teachings the hope of a glorious resurrection. I have found many in the world who have not known that we believe in the divine mission of our Lord, and I have been let to say upon more than one occasion that there are no people in the world who so well understand the divine mission of Jesus Christ, who so thoroughly believe him to have been the Son of God, who are so confident that at the present time he is enthroned in glory at the right hand of his Father, as the Latter-day Saints." ---President George Albert Smith
