I remember the trip to Colorado and Brenda had the whistle. I remember we were in Green River, stopped by a park and old lady kept bending over to pick up her dog and somebody kept whistling at her. She kept looking around but she could never figure out where it was coming from. All she needed to do was look for the car load of kids howling with laughter.
My first thoughts were that perhaps you made a trip to Austria and encountered the Von Trapps, but now that I hear the real story,I do remember the whistle. Not the trip, of course, because I'm sure it was WAY before my time, but the whistle lived on for years to come.
I remember traveling in a caravan. We were drivers by then and we all wanted to drive. It was fun having Brenda along to liven things up. Remember the rubber animals we got to hang from the mirror?
