It was the "Communication Center" . Many an evening was spent taking turns sitting on the heater, until our butts where too hot, and talking with our siblings.
I'd sit by the heater every morning and read my scout book. I would plan what merit badges to work on while sitting in front of the heater. After being ooutside shoveling snow, milking the cow, or coming home from the bus stop in a blizzard, sitting on the stove was always a treat, even if your wet pants started smoking.

I remember how close we would come to burning the house down every morning...fighting to see who could get closer.

I remember sitting on it when I woke up in the morning waiting for my turn in the bathroom.
That heater was what got me started on all those cold mornings before milking the cow or going to school.
